Tobogganing Year 2

This is our second year tobogganing and this time around, I was happy that Kimi can finally go with Kenzo instead of us going down every time with Kenzo and having to come up which was really tiring… Sign of old age :( hehe!

Kenzo, on the other hand, has finally agreed to going down the slope by himself. It was a bit of time before he agreed and when he finally tried it, he was screeching from delight and wanted to do in again and again...

Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. It does takes awhile but now I learned to enjoy the 4 season that we have here in Vancouver, Canada. We do have our favourite but there is a certain excitement in waiting for the next one to arrive and to prepare the kids in their next adventure for the season.

Winter. It is still quite cold here but not snowy and the mommies decided to give the kids a nice surprise by planning a Winter Tobogganing Event right at the beginning of February at Mt Seymour. We kept everything under wrap for the reason that we wanted our sanity intact before the event and I don't think the kids can contain the excitement once they found out what is waiting for them. One more reason was that a few weeks before our event, kids are coming down with fever coughs and colds and we were keeping our fingers crossed that we will make it in time without anyone missing the fun or having to cancel the whole plan. Lucky me, Kenzo got fever 4 days before and Kimi 2 days before and I was actually thinking that we might be left behind... BUT, we were there and everyone was COMPLETE! (Double Hooray!)

It was my first time to do Tobogganing and I was more scared excited than scared until I saw the slope that we were going to slide from and the oversize plastic folder that were available for rent to rest our butt in as we go down the icy slide... Now, it was too late to make an excuse and I had to be brave especially since the Kimi and Kenzo saw their playmates and were quite excited at the prospect of sliding like their friends were doing.... Talk about good peer pressure.

I found a sturdier mat (Thanks Jo!) and with a bit of encouragement, I got Kimi to go the first slide with me and I actually went straight for the Starting flag with a loud Thump.... Oooh my pride hurt more than anything and I went up with a sigh and turned to find everyone looking at my nice start. I decided to sit it out a bit and sulk pretend nothing happened out of the ordinary hehe!

Hubby decided to finally try it with Kenzo and he actually did a whole lot better than me (Hmph!)

I finally got the courage as soon as I saw kids half my size doing it on their own.

I got Kenzo which was wiggling all the way down. I was holding onto him and screaming all the way down hoping that I can stay in the mat without holding anything except an overzealous toddler... and I DID! (Pat on the back)

Several more slides and I was getting more confident but the hike up was really tiring me down and Kenzo wanted me to carry him every time it was uphill (Double Sigh)

Kimi finally got the confidence and decided to try it be herself...

She did tumble on the second attempt but she went on as if nothing happened (Atta Girl!)

Uncle Warren and Rex was going up and down the hill fetching the kids and sliding with them...I don't know where they got the stamina. Uncle Charlie and Steve held on to their cameras in between slides to make sure they got everything captured. I was so glad Eron was there to help with Kenzo as well.

Christmas at the Peak 2012

I was especially excited with hubby's Christmas Party. Last year, it was at a hotel but this year, the organizer decided to do it at Grouse Mountain. I love the fact that we can all go with hubby and we don't need to pay the ride up and a buffet lunch at a minimal price. Of course, hubby was totally free as he was an employee there. 

Even though the weather was a bit more windy than what I would have liked, we decided to go through with the party and was really happy we went :)

Great Idea on the location. I sure hope that next year's venue will be a notch higher than Grouse ;)

PEAK OF CHRISTMAS 2012

New Year at Grouse Mountain

It was not a white Christmas, nor anything white this whole month of December. We decided to go up the mountains for the first day of 2012 to see the snow instead and to celebrate 2012 with a date (plus Kimi).

I underestimated the coldness of being up there. I was in my thickest outfit, but I was still cold, while Kimi was oblivious to the cold and getting as much snow as she can handle.

Grouse has a couple of Christmas related activities that we wanted the kids to experience but because of all the parties and other things we had to finish, we kept on delaying it and ended up doing Grouse for the New Year.

Kimi saw the skating rink and urged us to let her skate for a while. She is the smallest kid without any guide, at the farthest part of the rink. She was still balancing when I videotaped her... She walks funny, I guess I put on too much clothes on her to keep her warm that it affected her gait (he he!)

... I was so glad that we were able to do the sleigh ride. The reindeer and Santa part was not available though

Afterwards, we had to warm up and confirm our reservation for dinner at the Observatory. It was a free gondola ride up when you eat at the Observatory. A good deal... It has a couple of awards plastered on the wall which was a good sign. I was not expecting much with the food but was pleasantly surprised to prove myself wrong this time. The food was in small portion, which was to be expected, but was quite tasty. 

The view was spectacular and the service was impeccable.

Mini Field Trip #1: Lonsdale Quay

Summer has arrived a bit late this year and we are finally maximizing the heat with lots of outdoor activities.

First off, Lonsdale Quay. Riding the Skytrain is an event all by itself but add to that the Seabus...

Grins from ear to ear... and nonstop chattering and some disagreement all the way to the the Quay.

We had pasta, pizza and crepes as well to keep the kids happy.

Afterward, we decided to do a walk on the 2nd floor to a ball play area... to get the pent up energy out of the kids...

...and finally, the real event is the Summer Event: Kid's Friday at Lonsdale which was magician, balloon twister, juggler..... Matthew Johnson.

Kenzo and Justin were tired and sleepy already and in their respective strollers ;)

Time was really short for us but we had to say our goodbyes and settle with the thought that next meeting will come soon enough...

Another farm visit

Kimi seems to enjoy kid attractions more these past few months. She expresses her happiness whenever we make plans for a family bonding time and continuously reminds us so...

I always feel a burst of pride whenever she expresses her appreciation over simple things and when her face lights up as she realizes that we are going on a kid trip...
