Max, Vancouver

Months since it opened, we finally got the chance to try Max in Vancouver.

We decided to try other dishes aside from the chicken which Max was famous for.

There was a lot of spaces inside and with nice interiors. The wait was decent despite the fact that there was an event ongoing on their private room.

* Our Dinner

Our dinner was sent out warm (not hot). I love the sago and gulaman drink. The Nilagang baka (soup) was tasty. The Kare kare was okay but the color looks too orange and some tripe inside would be nice but they had a lot of meat into both the soup and Kare Kare. Chicken Sisig was not hot as should be, I guess it was because of the plate. Sizzling plate would probably help. As for the Crispy Pata, it was good.

Overall, the food was okay. We were not blown away but maybe it would get better or we should probably try the tested dishes which I noticed other tables ordered. The Pancit Canton (noodles) and the Max's Fried chicken.

MAX-sarap

One of the things that got hubby excited when we pushed through with the LA trip was how many of those familiar restaurants are scattered there. To start: Jollibee, Red Ribbon are available in each city. There is Yoshinoya which we failed to try and Shakeys. Then, there is Max.

Hubby and I used to frequent Max back in Manila. It was a restaurant close to his stomach heart.

Here in Canada, there is not much of those familiar comfort foods that we used to go to and we missed those a lot.

* Max in Glendale

One of the disadvantage of going in small group is that you can't order a lot unless you want to bring home doggy bags. Another downside when there is a kid is that one of those choices should be soup for the little one.

* Nilagang Baka

So, that left us with one choice of dish that we missed the most.

* Chicken Sisig

I know that Chicken is what they are most famous for but we missed this kind of Sisig so....
It has the same taste as the one in Manila. My only complaint is that it was cut quite big :(

The Bee

Those who've ever been in the Philippiness for a few days would definitely know this character. It is the counterpart of Mickey Mouse, I mean, Mc Donalds. I just wish we woudn't have to travel 2 -3 hours from Canada (to Tukwila, WA) to taste this famous fast food.

That is why we did 2 meals in Jollibee during our 10 days stay in California, U.S.A.

The next Jollibee was the one with Red Ribbon beside it. Sad thing was, there was no breakfast for this branch and we ended up wating at a nearby Filipino restaurant. :(

* Glad to see an old friend

* Red Ribbon Mamon for take out

Kanin Club @ TechnoHub

Vancouver has its share of Filipino restaurant but when I arrived in Manila, I was looking forward to eating at one authentic Filipino cuisine

Kanin club is a good choice for such an experience.

* Kanin Club at UP Ayala Land TechnoHub

* Laing - nothing special, just the regular Laing

* Crispy Dinuguan- taste like chicharon (pork rind) with dinuguan sauce
I personally like it

* Sinangag na Sinigang- I love this rice dish a lot. Pretty inventive
Rice that tastes like Sinigang. Taste just right and a few pork on the top like the Sinigang soup dish we are used to plus a touch of a real sampaloc on the side.

* Bagoong Rice

* Binukadkad na tilapia

* Stuffed Squid- I love this one too!

As for the price, I imagined it was a bit on the higher price range but taste-wise it was like coming....home. Perfect for balikbayans or for people that wants a new way to eat Filipino dishes.

* Eric and Kimi after a filling lunch

* Wacky shot...kuno!

* Kimi strikes a pose outside the restaurant

* Introducing my uncle ERIC!

* I love everything here! Feels like home haha!
Feels like a PARK!
I knew it! Canadian pa din by heart...

Thanks to Auntie Lynda and Auntie Shirley for the nice treat :)

Seafood City comes to Tukwila

We don't have Filipino Supermarket of this kind here in Vancouver, Canada

The biggest we have is the one in Richmond and it doesn't have a Talipapa area wherein you can get fresh seafood and a station wherein you can have them fry the seafood for you as well.

I felt like I was transported back to Trinoma's Supermarket wherein aisles of Filipino products filled the shelves. We do have our Asian Supermarket here but majority of the items are Chinese items and only a part are Filipino products but Seafood City is more on Filipino products and some Chinese products.

Even the song throughout the store was Tagalog he he!

* Talipapa Area

* Frozen Items
Sorbetes, Lumpia...

* Beverage Cooler Area

* Grocery Gondolas

* Pay Area...

They have so much Filipino product here. Sumans in three different types with different brands. Longganisa, Fish balls, Likas Papaya soap, Eskinol... I love Seafood City and I hope to return here when our supply ran out but not soon enough :( It requires a long drive just to get here. I sure hope Seafood City decided to open a branch in Vancouver soon...hint* hint*
