Learning Kits

A little note from our church's bulletin was asking for donation of school supplies for the less fortunate in the 3rd world country. The mommies decided to do 50 packs of the 400 packs they were targeting and enlisted the help of the kids to pack. It was a joint effort and within less than a week, we got all the supplies needed to make 50 packs of school kits. Each kit includes the following as specified:

* School Kit Pack

4 Spiral Notebooks 8.5 x 10- 70 sheets
4 pencil unsharpened
1 12" ruler with cm and inches
1pack 12 coloured pencil in package
1 eraser

We also decided on putting them individually in envelopes and label them to make it more special for the kids

* Dark background for the guys and the light ones for the girls

We all cramped up in our small house on Saturday to do the mass production...
in time for Sunday

* A little bit of help goes a long way...

They are still accepting more school kits and for those who want to help, you can drop them off at the Info Desk on weekend service at Willingdon Church.

Desserts for the Deserving

Being a frustrated baker (still), I read up a lot of baking blogs for tips and inspiration and one of the thing that caught my eyes and pulled on my heartstrings was an entry for a project that calls for volunteer bakers which aims to use baking to bring a bit of joy to somebody who deserves such a treat. This was founded last year, and because of it's success, they are doing it again this year.

To learn more CLICK HERE

I decided to sign up and requested to have a nominated person from Canada as a recipient of my...ahem- treat.

I got an email notifying me that I got a deserving person with a backgrounder as to why she deserves a little treat. She was nominated by her niece:

I would like to nominate my Aunt Jean*. She has given up her life to making sure that everyone around her is happy, but herself. She is always giving and never asks for anything in return. Her husband, and subsequently my uncle, has been diagnosed with leukemia, and my aunt has persevered and taken up all that she can and more to make sure that my uncle is comfortable. She works all day to make sure that her family is provided for, and as I said she never takes the time to look after herself. I think a reminder that she is important, and that there are people thinking of her, would do wonders for her spirit, and keep her moral high at a time when she is so run down.

* names changed to protect the privacy of the person

I wish I am a better baker to make a real treat for her but I ended up with Red Velvet Choco Crinkles because it was easier to ship things like cookies (and crinkles) to arrivr in one piece after shipping and because it was lighter, the shipping cost will be not that expensive as well. It still cost around $10 to ship a light package from Canada to Canada....

* Red Velvet Choco Crinkles
\
* Packaged with Styro to cushion the crinkles

* Lots of Love...

I hope that I was able to bring a smile with this small package of goodies.

Till next year's Dessert for the Deserving :).

Future Parking Attendant

This guy is crazy about cars...or anything with wheels for that matter.

Although his favorite are Cars and Thomas, he still gets his thrill from other brands.

A cousin, Chris, brought over a car Kenzo left at their house and decided to send in 5 more cars together with it...much to the delight of Kenzo. He was so happy to find these new addition to his collections he was pretty much in heaven the whole day and won't let go of any of it wherever he goes.

* Interchanging the orders of the cars over and over

...I guess Kenzo would love to be a parking attendant as a summer job when he grows up ;)

THE RAINBOW AFTER THE RAIN

Submitted by: maple
Author: Maple

God never promise us a good life on earth;
but He gave the assurance that there will always
be a rainbow after the rain.

Life on earth is not always what we expected
and wanted it to be. But if we can put our
trust in God, He can sail us through definitely.

God never let us bear what is impossible;
and He makes sure what we bear is the
limit that we can take without much difficulty.

After the rain, things will be changed;
everything on earth seems to be new
and clean. With these renew scenario,
we should be:

- a more positive and courageous person
as indicated by the RED of the rainbow;

- a creative, thoughtful and joyful person
as indicated by the ORANGE of the rainbow;

- an intelligent, confident and logical person as
indicated by the YELLOW of the rainbow;

- a renewed, generous and practical person as
indicated by the GREEN of the rainbow;

- a peaceful, sincere and responsible person as
indicated by the BLUE of the rainbow;

- a relaxed, devoted and wise person as
indicated by the INDIGO of the rainbow;

and last but not least, a spiritual and idealistic
person as indicated by the VIOLET of the rainbow.
