2016 Grade 3 Auction Piece

For this year's auction, we decided on photo collage of the Grade 3's in their present and previous years in one box. A special collection of photos from the yesteryears in one package. We also created a trio of frames that depicts the verse 1 Corinthians 13:13

We spent a morning forming the Grade 3 (and their buddy from Grade 6) for the cross formation

Hearts was just an afterthought and was composed of the Grade 3 student only. It came out nicely so the idea for the three pictures being used instead of just one picture came about.

Using mod podge, pictures from 4 years and a natural finish box. We created these...

...and with the use of (3) 8 x 10 inches frame, we managed to do these

I am quite happy as to how it turned out.

Classroom Auction Project 2015

This year, a mom friend was a coordinator for the Grade 2 Auction Project. She came to me and asked me to help pitch in ideas and maybe help with the execution of the project up to it's completion as well.

This year is the Grade 2's First Communion year and we decided to focus the theme of our projects in line with the religious event. We wanted something that has a touch of the students on the project to make it more special. Pictures are worth a thousand words and these kid's pictures are used as mosaic to make up the whole artwork which are the following: The Holy Family and The Holy Trinity.

With a mosaic app, I was able to do these to both pictures. I put all the pictures from the kids in one folder. These pictures are from Kindergarten to Grade 2 pictured collected from their school... It was a lot of pictures but having more pictures to choose from is better in making the art work closer to the original.

We took advantage of the free poster print from Staples to see a proof of the Holy Trinity and once we saw how it looked, we decided to pay for one more copy for the Holy Family. We made use of the current promo at Michaels to frame the art works. It was a BOGO deal, which was why we actually saved a bit. Thanks to coupling.

It was overwhelming to see how the teachers (and students) responded to the Mosaic. We brought it on Tuesday (April Fools Day) since we had a schedule to do the add on project that we were brewing which was a paper bead rosary. We brought both frames up to the Grade 2 classroom and the teacher explained and showed the students our auction project.

For the paper bead rosary, we decided to get each kids to write down 2 prayers on an index card and copy those same prayers to a strip of paper which we will be rolling to make a paper bead. These beads will be the one uses to make a rosary. Armed with a jewelry tool and some wires, I tried to loop each beads as soon as they finish their prayer intentions and soon the rosary was taking shape. Thanks to a cutting machine, Mrs. Wagner used the machine to cut the cross on a cardboard and on the scrap paper similar to the beads to finish off the rosary's cross. We have yet to seal each bead with a gloss for the weekend and hopefully it will turn out great as well. A frame or a jewelry box is the final touch we were hoping for to showcase the product.

Light the Night 2015 Fundraising

Once Again, I have joined the Light the Night Walk which will be held on Stanley Park Lumberman's Arch on Saturday, October 17, 2015

I am taking the role of Team Captain again and would love to have your support in this great event.

Light the Night 2014 in Vancouver

This year, me and my husband decided to support LLS with their annual Light the Night Walk.

With chapters throughout Canada and the United States, LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. 

Our mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

In 2012, Light The Night was able to raise $50 million for blood cancer research in North America.

Across Canada in 2013 The Light The Night walks raised over five million dollars. Vancouver hosted its 9th Walk in 2013 and raised over $603,000.

This is not just a walk, it’s a chance to come together and support one another, complete with music, food and family fun. Everyone and anyone can join us to help take steps to cure cancer.

As of today, we reached the $100- $499 goal. We hope we will get more support as the event gets closer.

Learning Kits

A little note from our church's bulletin was asking for donation of school supplies for the less fortunate in the 3rd world country. The mommies decided to do 50 packs of the 400 packs they were targeting and enlisted the help of the kids to pack. It was a joint effort and within less than a week, we got all the supplies needed to make 50 packs of school kits. Each kit includes the following as specified:

* School Kit Pack

4 Spiral Notebooks 8.5 x 10- 70 sheets

4 pencil unsharpened

1 12" ruler with cm and inches

1pack 12 coloured pencil in package

1 eraser

We also decided on putting them individually in envelopes and label them to make it more special for the kids 

* Dark background for the guys and the light ones for the girls

We all cramped up in our small house on Saturday to do the mass production...

in time for Sunday

Kensington`s Christmas Lights

I came across an article about a house that is decorated with Christmas lights every year since 1972 with the mission of helping a cause that he believes in. I was curious but was not going to drive all the way from our house to check one house with Christmas lights but  I had it at the back of my mind in case we had a way closer to that place...and when we went to Grouse, I took a chance and ask hubby to drive us past that house on our way home.

I just had my box set up on recording the Storyline show. I was impressed how they do video editing now in Manila. Then I saw the segment about Kcat.

Kcat was diagnosed with NS2, instead of giving up, she remains strong and full of purpose. Even with the diagnosis, she didn't lost her spirit and she uses her talent as a graphic artist to raise funds for her treatment.She designs T-shirt which symbolizes an ear and a hearing aid on top of each other that opens up to a heart. Simple design yet it sums up the message she wants to convey- HEAR ME WITH YOUR HEART. To Kcat, stay strong and be an inspiration to all of us...

Wanted to keep in touch with all of you and tell you about this new thing I am doing with a  couple of friends. We have adopted an apartment @ Upward bound house (UBH) in Culver City for one year and are looking for some help from friends and family.

Upward bound house (UBH) Culver City provides emergency shelter for homeless families with children. We have completed our first apartment furnish in May and will be doing it again around August/September for the next family in need.

Upward Bound House is a community-based, social service agency headquartered in Santa Monica California.  We are a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1991 to help mitigate the affordable housing crisis on the Westside of Los Angeles County and specifically, its impact on two vulnerable populations:   homeless families with minor children and very low-income seniors.

Upward Bound House fulfills its mission through Family Place, its transitional housing facility for homeless families, and Senior Villa, its affordable housing facility for the very low-income elderly, both located in Santa Monica.  Our newest facility,  Family Shelter, is an emergency shelter for families with children located in Culver City.

Connecting our Santa Monica facilities and our surrounding community is our innovative S.
