Gastropost Vancouver: Get Saucy, March 2014

I've always photographed my food when we go out to eat, and I usually post them in food related sites just for the fun of it actual taste. 

During one of my regular post of food pictures in Instagram, Gastropost commented on an entry and I decided to go and give it a try. 

Register and you get a food mission, sort of like a theme of picture they need for the paper and when you get chosen, you get a chance to be featured on newspaper, THE PROVINCE.

I did, and without really expecting to, I went with the motion of posting 2 pictures with the theme #getsaucy, which was food that has sauces on the spotlight. One picture did get in and I am so surprised that it actually made it into the papers. A small spot, but it is THERE!

Japanese Village and Marching Band

Initially, we were aiming for a seafood experience for dinner. Victoria is actually well known for their seafood but I guess a lot of people are thinking like us and we got a reservation for an 8:45pm- Too late.

We decided to scanned through the Victoria magazine inside our hotel room and saw a page that advertised Japanese Teppanyaki cuisine. They are also a recipient of Best of the City from 1995 onward. So, with that in my mind, we called them up for a reservation and managed to get a reasonable 8pm dinner reservation. Small Victory- Yey!

We use our outdated (but still reliable) GPS and arrived looking for the Japanese Village sign. Two phone calls to the restaurant, we finally found the restaurant a bit ahead from where we were planning to park covered by some trees... AHA!

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! A loud noise from the other side of the restaurant. Being curious (ha ha!), Kimi and I decided to investigate and found a marching band coming....

After the parade, it was just a preview so it was short... Whew!My stomach was grumbling by this time.

I was a bit apprehensive seeing the dark entry going down the actual restaurant.

It was not so bad downstair. Yes, it was dark just like any typical Teppanyaki restaurant.

We had to wait some more- but no the wait was not so bad.

The meal was really good. Even hubby who doesn't eat mushroom managed to finish the appetizer mushroom that comes with the meal. I was apprehensive with the veggies but it was all so good as well. The kids loved the halibut fillet and even hubby who is very particular with steak (always complaining how hard it usually is), was satisfied on how his turned out.

I was hoping the ice cream would be green tea but the vanilla was really good as well.

Weekend in Downtown

I love how Downtown picked up itself after the Riot last Hockey season. The only traces of it is the Wall of Hope with messages from the real Vancouverites.

It was such a nice day out and with my babies and hubby, plus close chums, Stone and Twins. We strolled downtown in this nice, sunny day :)

Daddy's little girl

One of the new additions in Downtown is the approval of numerous food carts that offers different  kinds of cuisine. We are used to seeing burgers and hotdog being the only menu available in our food carts but...

times have changed and we want MORE!

Wanted to do a food cart hopping but it is hard when your stomach can only hold so much. We tried the Chinese/ Asian  food cart first, a thing close to our... hmm, roots :)

Whenever I travel, I love looking for a McDonald of that country to see what are the difference with the McDonald back home in Vancouver...

This one was located in one of the mall at a strip in Orchard Road.

Loving Cibo...

I really miss the pasta in Cibo and was so glad I could meet one of my best friend here. Perfect setting and great conversation...

I still don't have the food pictures from this place because of the laptop water spill... :(

Restaurant name was not that original but it looks clean and bright and it was a good place to be away from the other noisy restaurants...

Being really good with kids... Eileen managed to keep Kimi entertained and even made use of a napkin to transformed it into a frog... Mommy made use of the nuts to make eyes for the poor pale frog

I may be partly blamed for her excitement over the pineapple. I was intent on making Kimi excited over the trip to Manila that I talked about how sweet Mango and Pineapples were in the Philippines... he he! She was over the moon when she saw mango as well. She was actually served mango everyday for breakfast during her entire stay in Manila...
