Creative Dance for 5 years old

I wish there was a site to check on ratings and reviews of a particular class before trying them out but it is a hit and miss.

There is one though that I tried before when Kimi was younger, which I loved at Shadbolt called "Creative Dance 4yo" with an instructor named Mr. Trevor. He is now at his 15th year teaching this class and what I love the most is his character and the live accompaniment that makes the class more interesting. The fact that I intentionally registered for his class is a statement enough of just how much I enjoy his class for my kids... Kenzo actually refused to go to dance class, but he enjoyed it right after one class. (Whew!)

We were invited to watch on the last day of the class, and here are the pictures to go with the presentation.

Kindergarten's take on Hip Hop

We were invited to a Hip Hop performance at Kimi's school and I was more than excited to be a part of the audience.

I've never seen Kimi do Hip Hop and it was such a treat just to watch her stray from the ballet dance to something that is way different.

* SFDS Kindergarteners

It was a simple dance step and Kimi was not in her element but momma was really proud of her and her first attempt with it...

* A Short Video

They had 5 days to prepare for this. Such a short preparation and everyone did such a great performance. It was fun hearing the 90's music from my youth. Great Job SFDS-ers!

July Summer Classes @ Burnaby 2012

I'm especially excited with the start of summer as schedules finally opened up for Kimi (and Kenzo) to do some week-long activities that will keep them active and occupied. I got them different activities with the hopes that they will find something that will really appeal to them, and if it does, a long term registration of that particular activity is an option when the school year finally starts.

There are more activities this year for Kimi's age and what I did was I got the music teacher's class from Kimi's summer music class last year which Kimi enjoyed immensely, for Kenzo this year. The program for the younger set is called Young Tunes (July 3-6, 2012). It was a win win situation for the reason that Kimi can sit in while Kenzo does his class, so if Kenzo decided not to be that cooperative in the class, I am pretty sure Kimi, at least, will be participating.

As for Kimi, I got the Creative Dance for 4yo (July 9-13, 2012) which was highly recommended by our cousin and the Art Explorers (July 9-13, 2012) in Burnaby Art Gallery which was an art class using different media and an artwork/inspiration from an artist to based the day's work.

*Artistic Teachers behind the programs

For the week that Kenzo didn't have any class, we spent the day waiting for Kimi with the whole Shadbolt and Burnaby Art Gallery as his personal playground. Although it was hard to be running after him, he was quite happy coming with me everyday and it was worth it in a way. It was our own time to bond...outdoor this time.

Creative Dance (4yo) @ Shadbolt

I loved the casual and fun approach to this program.

Mr Trevor called the students dancers/ friends and was quite entertaining in his class.

I was not able to witness the class until the last day wherein parents are finally encouraged to come and see for themselves what the kids have been doing the past few days.

* Friday- sneak peek

Before the class, kids got a few minutes of Free Play .

* Free play

Clean up was next as the floor was cleared away to make way for the dancer to do their thing.

My favorite part was the accompaniment...

* Mr Robert does the sound effects for the class

Some stretchings...

* Sample video from the class...

* Final Speech

Dancing with the feet is one thing,
but Dancing with the heart is another.

Behind the Scenes...

I was behind the scenes with Kimi for her second day performance at Michael J. Fox.

It looked like a picnic indoor in the dressing room with all the parents all geared up to keep the dancers busy while waiting for their number. The whole production was really long and I didn't stay to finish the whole production. I waited until Kimi's second number and left soon after, the kids were really tired from all the waiting since the waiting between the two numbers is around 2 hours long. I was really proud of how well Kimi behaved in the dressing area on the first day with other moms changing her costume (since I was watching the show...). I realized that the coloring books and activity things that the mommies brought was the reason she was preoccupied that day :)

I was able to take more pictures while I was with Kimi...

* I had her dressed for her first number

* All ready to dance...

* Waiting for their turn...

* Mommy?! where you going?

This lady reminds me a bit of Suri Cruise.. So cute...

* I'm still here...

I still don't have the video with me but I have made a short video with pictures from the dance (some are already up there), with the exact song for their dance. I hope it's easy to extract some parts from the DVD that will be given to us so I can post them here next time...

Watching Revue 2011

There were 2 shows that Kimi was in:

June 18th and 19th.

I decided to watch the Saturday show and leave the Sunday show to hubby.

We had to watch it separately because I have to drive Kimi on both days and hubby can't go on Sunday to watch. I volunteered for Sunday to help with the wardrobe change instead to get a feel of the backstage scene as well.

* The Program

I wasn't able to get much photos when I watched the show because I wanted to watch it firsthand and not behind a lens..

* Waiting for the curtains to rise...
I was the one getting butterflies in my stomach

* Kimi's so lucky she got supporters who came all the way to cheer her on
...with flowers pa!

Kimi did 2 dances. Her first one was tap dance. It was really funny, I guess she wasn't expecting a lot of people (Note: There was no audience at all at their dance rehearsal a week ago) because as soon as she got on stage and the music started, she was frozen from where she was standing, scanning the crowd. She finally snapped out when the music was finally coming to an end and she just did the part wherein she was supposed to be on her tummy and shake their feet up in the air. I wasn't able to take a picture of the lion costume on the first day...

* Intermission*

* Kimi was soooo happy to see Auntie Twinny,
she asked if Auntie Twinny is also there for the next day, uhhhm...

* Uncle Stone also made his presence felt :)

The second one was the ballet number. We decided to try another strategy. As soon as the curtain went up, Twinny and I decided to let Kimi see us...and it actually worked! She finally danced the whole number and even made an OK sign to us as the middle of the number which made the audience laugh at her antics onstage... I was so happy that she finally decided to do the dance on the second number...Whew! I guess she was just looking for us in the audience...tsk tsk!

* So happy to get it over and done with...

* Goofing around X-)

It was held at Michael J. Fox, this is also the venue for the Revue 2011 Ballet Recital :)

* A Little Divine Chef... Some sort of mystery!?
What am I?

* With mommy waiting for our turns at the rehearsal :)

...just wait for my other costume ;)

Around the World Ballet Recital

It was a special day for Kalen because she will be showcasing months of hard work as a ballet student into a short dance in the form of a recital. Being a kid, she hasn’t shown any nervousness towards the show but was as chatty as ever on the way to the venue.

* Tickets to see the show

Looking back to the time when we watched Kaos in Manila, I'd like to expose Kimi to more shows as a way to bond and to pave the way for her to appreciate music and art... so, Kimi was my date :) and I wouldn't have it any other way.
